A climbing autonomous robot for inspection applications in 3D complex environments

چکیده
Often inspection and maintenance work involve a large number of highly dangerous manual operations, especially within industrial fields such as shipbuilding and construction. This paper deals with the autonomous climbing robot which uses the "caterpillar" concept to climb in a complex 3D metallic-based structures. During its motion the robot generates in real-time the path and grasp planning in order to ensure stable self-support, avoid the environment obstacles, and optimise the robot consumption during the inspection. The control and monitoring of the robot is achieved through an advanced Graphical User Interface to allow an effective and user friendly operation of the robot. The experiments confirm its advantages in executing the inspection operations.

Adaptive Control Strategy of Climbing Robot for Inspection Applications in Construction Industry
This paper presents the implementation of an adaptive control strategy of the climbing robot ROMA2. Its main area of application is an autonomous inspection of complex 3D infrastructure in construction industry, like bridges, skeletons of the buildings, offshore platforms, etc. Due to the fact that gravity factors have a high influence on the quality and security of the motion, the adaptive con...

Nishi [1-3], Backes [4] have built large wall-climbing robots with suction cups. However, designing a micro-robot that can climb walls, walk on ceilings, crawl through pipes and traverse on floors is a challenging task. Autonomous micro-robot system has wide applications include remotely monitoring hazardous environments, reconnaissance, defects inspection, and fire fighting. The restrictions s...

-Wheeled-tracked vehicles are undoubtedly the most popular means of transportation. However, these vehicles are mainly suitable for relatively flat terrain. Legged vehicles, on the other hand, have the potential to handle wide variety of terrain. Robug IIs is a legged climbing robot designed to work in relatively unstructured and rough terrain. It has the capability of walking, climbing vertica...
متن کاملA mobile robot with autonomous climbing and descending of stairs
Mobile robots are used to operate in urban environments, for surveillance, reconnaissance, and inspection, as well as for military operations and in hazardous environments. Some are intended for exploration of only natural terrains, but others also for artificial environments, including stairways. This paper presents a mobile robot design that achieves autonomous climbing and descending of stai...
